I watched a video, my faith in Jesus is under pressure. I appreciate your help.
So you feel your faith is under pressure because you have faith in what a person in that video says.
Do you understand what faith actually is? Or are you like most people and misunderstand the meaning of faith?
This is what faith is according to the Bible:
- Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1).
Substance is not just a wish. Evidence is not something that does not exist. Substantial evidence is not what somebody said or wrote; nor is it an event that occurred. Substantial evidence is something that gives you the assurance of its reality in the present—right now. If you have this faith, then your faith is real. You will possess that which I received when I became a Christian. When you have this assurance it does not depart.
As for Jesus being God, the Jews said that they were going to kill Him because He claimed He was God.
- The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we stone you but for blasphemy; because you, being a man, make yourself God.” (John 10:33)
Jesus understood Himself to be the Christ, the Messiah. We see this when Jesus was talking to the Samarian woman at the well.
- But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ); when he comes, he will show us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” (John 4:23-26)
Jesus understood that even though He was a man, He was not of this world, the same as the Christ was not of this world, and that the Christ was God Himself.
- He said to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he.” ( John 8:23-:24)
The idea expressed that “I am he” is not the same as saying “I am”, as expressed by God to Moses, does not hold water. For when God told Moses to tell the people that I AM had sent him, this is exactly what the Jews understood Jesus to be saying when He made the claim that before Abraham, I AM.
- God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you. (Exodus 3:14)
- Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58)
When you consider that Jesus clearly understood that He was God, and those to whom He spoke were under no misapprehension that this is what He meant, there is no evidence to doubt. Jesus understood who He was and those who heard Him understood who He was. The question now becomes Are you hearing the voice of Jesus? All those who belong to Him hear His voice.
- My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27)
- Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20)
Without inviting Jesus to come into your innermost being, you cannot experience the evidence that never leaves your person and testifies to the truth that the Lord of Life lives. When you have this experience, it enables you to have faith, because this is not something that is written in a book, on a rock, or in the sand; nor is something that happened yesterday but is not happening today. This is internalized evidence that you know is true right now. Enjoy it because “now” never ends.
We are speaking of receiving the assurance within your very being of Jesus having been raised from the dead and that you possess eternal life, which is given to those who reach out to our Heavenly Father, so they might know the Son. This is not a belief that something happened billions of years ago, or even thousands of years ago; neither is it a belief that belongs to your grandparents, or your parents. We are speaking about the substantial evidence that you can possess so that you know that you are in communion with Lord Jesus Christ.
