Many people claim they are ex-Christians. The truth is they were not Christians in the first place. They merely thought they were. To be a Christian one has to be born from above. Just as you are born into this world and you become very aware that you are alive, so, too, this occurs when a person becomes a Christian. Unfortunately, too many people merely claim they are Christians but have not been born again spiritually.
A person, who is born a girl, usually menstruates at some point in her life. When this happens she is not saying that she no longer is a female, rather this confirms her womanhood. Likewise a male eventually experiences an emission of semen. When this occurs the boy’s male identity is confirmed.
- That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6)
- By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples. (John 15:8)
You may have thought that you grew up in a Christian household. Obviously, the love, joy and peace that becomes evident in those who are born of the Spirit of God was not something that existed in the household in which you were raised.
When Jesus said that he is the way, the truth and the life, this means that if you want to know the way to life, you have to acknowledge the truth about yourself.
You were born. You will die. You have suffered. Your life is futile if you are born to suffer and then die. Yet you can conceive of eternity, but you cannot possess it. Those who have been born of the Spirit of God, do possess eternal life.
