There is a major difference between the two statements.
“I think of Jesus as God,” indicates that the person actually thinks Jesus is God.
In saying, “I see God in the Lord Jesus,” is equivalent to saying, “I see God in every man,” even if people may not like to admit this.
Moreover, to say that you see God in Jesus can suggest that Jesus is greater than God. For we can say I see good in that person over there. The goodness is part of the person; therefore, the person is greater than good.
If you say, I see Jesus is God, then this is to recognize that God is Jesus.
- Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? (John 14:9)
- I and the Father are one. (John 10:30)
Always remember that while a word is a thought, so is a sentence, but then it depends upon the paragraph, which in turn could depend upon the context of the surrounding paragraphs and the main idea that permeates what has been written.
For instance, the Bible begins with:
- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)
- The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen. (Revelation 22:21)
- See to it that no one makes a prey of you by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fulness of deity dwells bodily. (Colossians 2:8-9)
- He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be pre-eminent. For in him all the fulness of God was pleased to dwell. (Colossians 1:15-19)
- Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant,[a] being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name. (Philippians 2:5-9)
