THE EARTH IS FLAT. At Least This Is What One Documentary Claims To Prove. But If the world is flat, how can we prove that it is not.

Question: Imagine the Earth is flat, why would governments lie about it being flat and teach us otherwise? What does anyone gain from it being spherical?

(Just to make things clear, I do not believe the Earth is flat. I just ran into a ‘documentary’ proving the Earth is flat and the question just popped up in my head. Why would anyone lie about the Earth being spherical rather than flat? What does any government or an elite group of people gain?)

There are a number of issues raised in your question that are somewhat mixed.

1. There would be no need to imagine that the Earth is flat, unless you desired to believe the Government propaganda.
2. The Earth being spherical enables people to actually travel around it.
3. But how can a documentary prove the Earth is flat when it isn’t?

How can a documentary prove the Earth is flat when it isn’t? 

A documentary proves nothing. A documentary merely reports what the producer wants you to believe. If the documentary was produced by flat-earthers, they will argue for a flat Earth. However,  all who have flown around the globe cease to be flat-earthers. Those who are flat-earthers have either not flown very far or if they have, they have been in an aircraft that has only flown longitudinally.

One vociferous flat-earther I came across some time ago on a youtube video, who has flown from England to the Canary Islands and back, claims he is knowledgeable on the subject. He even fills small community halls preaching his beliefs. Earth is flat according to him because he has flown in an aircraft from England and beyond Spain and back.

Fortunately, I was able to deprogram one of his disciples who seemed to scream from the rooftops the Earth is flat, because he had found a guru full of enlightenment. The disciple claimed to be educated, too.

As part of the re-education process, I informed the disciple that he ought to consider the time it takes to fly from London to Seattle (10 hours, 6 minutes) and the time it takes to fly from Seattle to Tokyo (10 hours, 5 minutes), which is a distance of 12,483 km and requires a total of 20 hours 11 minutes flight time. Then I asked the disciple to consider the time it takes to fly from Tokyo to London across Asia, which is a distance of 9,553 km and takes 12 hours, 25 minutes. I also pointed out this is about an 8 hour difference, which indicates that the Earth is spherical—not flat.

At first the disciple, as do all who hate the truth, went into denial. Then when I suggested that if the Earth was flat, it should take at least 20 hours to fly back from Tokyo to London, if it took 20 hours 11 minutes to fly there, not 12 hours 25 minutes.

The disciple disappeared. I receive no more of his retorts. I can only assume that having been truly enlightened of his own folly, he was too ashamed even to thank me for saving him from further foolishness. But not everybody is grateful when they are shown the truth. Proud, ignorant and arrogant people actually hate those who demonstrate that they are really fools—especially when they think the person who shows them the truth is a fool. Yet this is what the Bible calls such people.

 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. (Proverbs 18:2)

Many ignorant people believe people from the ancient world believed that the Earth was flat and this is what the Bible teaches. Actually, the Bible does not teach the Earth is flat. The Bible indicates that the Earth is spherical by virtue of the what happened on the second day of Creation. We read:

And God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.”  And God made the firmament and separated the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament. And it was so.  And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day. (Genesis 1:6-8)

If you were to take a flat square object and place it in the midst of a pool filled with water, how are you going to separate the waters from the waters, and have water surrounding the water and yet separated. The only way this can be done is when a container of some sort is placed into the water so waters can be separated from each other. The something that separates can scoop water into one place to make it separate from the water it was taken. At minimum we are talking about a scoop of some sort if not a bucket. Or we could be talking about the Spirit of God separating what is referred to as water from the infinite waters of existence in a scooping action.

The Earth is said to have been made out of water:

 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago, and an Earth formed out of water and by means of water. (2 Peter 3:5)

The Spirit of God could have created a cube and taken a cube out of the waters, but the more than likely, a circular action that formed a spherical separation of the water from the waters is what occurred, as this is consistent with the Earth being called a circle in the Bible and what experience tells us. We all know that if a circle is lateral (East/West orientation) and a circle that is longitudinal (North/South orientation) is placed around it, we have a sphere. 

He has described a circle upon the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. (Job 26:10)

When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep. (Proverbs 8:27)

It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in. (Isaiah 40:22)

The ancients were of the view that the Earth was made circular (indicating a sphere). The apocryphal book of Second Esdras  states:

And he said to me, “At the beginning of the circle of the earth, before the portals of the world were in place, and before the assembled winds blew, and before the rumblings of thunder sounded, and before the flashes of lightning shone, and before the foundations of paradise were laid, and before the beautiful flowers were seen, and before the powers of movement were established, and before the innumerable hosts of angels were gathered together, and before the heights of the air were lifted up, and before the measures of the firmaments were named, and before the footstool of Zion was established, and before the present years were reckoned; and before the imaginations of those who now sin were estranged, and before those who stored up treasures of faith were sealed— then I planned these things, and they were made through me and not through another, just as the end shall come through me and not through another.” (2 Esdras 6:1-6)

The idea of a flat Earth was unknown among ancients who actually traveled sufficiently to learn that this was not the case. This is demonstrated by the Greek Stoic philosopher Posidonius (or Poseidonius) of Apameia (c. 135–51 BCE),  who measured the Earth's circumference by reference to the position of the star Canopus. His measure of 240,000 stadia translates to 24,000 miles, close to the actual circumference of 24,901 miles.--Early World Maps, Wikipedia. 

In fact, there is plenty of evidence around the world that indicates people were travelling from Israel to the Americas through the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic Ocean and to the Pacific Ocean from the Gulf of Aqaba. The Philippines is thought to be Ophir.

They went to Ophir, and brought from there gold, to the amount of four hundred and twenty talents; and they brought it to King Solomon. (1 Kings 9:28) 

Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold; but they did not go, for the ships were wrecked at Ezion-geber. (1 Kings 22:48)

While it suits people to think that the ancients thought the world was flat because this supports their theory that man is getting smarter, the archaeological evidence tells another story. Unfortunately, the evolutionists cannot permit the truth to interfere with their narrative. The truth is there is much evidence of the Hebrews having traversed the globe. Hebrew writing has been found in Ohio and Colorado. Whether the ships of Tarshish travelled across the Pacific ocean from the Philippines, who knows? 

One thing we know, the Earth was not flat then, and it is not flat now. Yet there are always people who get caught up in a thought-bubble, and like all bubbles they tend to float until popped.
