People, who are believers in their tradition, are not necessarily Christians, even though they might make such a claim. To be a Christian, a person has to be born again, and then follow in the footsteps of Lord Jesus Christ. This is what the Bible states in many and varied ways.
Admittedly, there are those who look to the Bible and believe some of it, claim that they are guardians of the truth (their interpretation) and reject the teachings that they do not like, which are also within the pages of the Holy Text.
Jesus said:
You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me; yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. I do not receive glory from men.But I know that you have not the love of God within you. I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. How can you believe, who receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; it is Moses who accuses you, on whom you set your hope. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote of me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?” (John 5:39-47)If people fully understood the Ten Commandments, they would begin to realize that this is where the rubber hits the road and salvation begins, because they have seen the need to change their wayward ways. Jesus spoke of judgment and justice, of mercy and faith. For mercy triumphs over judgment and justice brings forth faith.
