Biblical inerrancy is a philosophical construct that has been formulated by people who justify their existence from making a living teaching the Bible.
However, if one were to ask the question meaning that the Bible is inerrant when it comes to instructing people how to obtain eternal salvation through faith in Lord Jesus Christ with the assurance of the Holy Spirit, then we would have to say that this is so.
- You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me; yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. (John 5:39-40)
- But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 3:14-15)
The Old Testament also contains the only words that God wrote with His Own Finger. The Ten Commandments are the plumb line upon which all relationships are built, so they do not falter. They also point to Salvation through Lord Jesus Christ. The Ten Commandments are inerrant. Everyone who breaks any one of the last six of the Ten Commandments violates faith in other human beings and in the Lord God Creator of the Universe. The Ten Commandments are the plumb line for creating a society where people can live in peace and security. When these are violated, then the violator has effectively stated by the violation, other people are unworthy of consideration. Consequently, anyone who decides to reject social mores, needs to be rehabilitated or, judged unworthy of existing as a member of society and enjoying privileges. The Ten Commandments are absolute, inerrant and judge every violator as unworthy of God.
A Christian does not have to believe in the inerrancy of the Bible. However, a Christian will accept the Bible as the final authority when it comes to Salvation and, therefore, inerrant. This is because a Christian has exercised faith in Lord Jesus Christ and received the assurance of eternal life, to which the Bible bears witness is only possible through Lord Jesus Christ.
