Happy Riches Answer requested by Diane Shatto
People do confront other people who sin when they are involved with a congregation where Lord Jesus Christ is honored. In fact, those who walk with the Lord have a knack of drawing out the sin in another person’s life, especially if the person has hidden sin.
Sin, of course, needs to be understood. Most Christians have no understanding of what sin does and how much it causes them to lose out on the blessings that are rightfully theirs. When the Bible states that my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge, this does not mean people are not responsible for their own sins.
- My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. (Hosea 4:6)
Each one of us is born, given a spirit by God—unlike animals—and we begin to learn about life from our parents, our family, our community, our culture and then we have to make our own decisions.
Parents can give guidance to their children, but unless they are authentic and live their own lives in accordance to the guidance they give their children, the children will rebel against what their parents say. Indoctrination of atheism within the secular school system, along with children’s rights over parents’ rights, has done much to cause family breakdown; especially, breakdown of that referred to as the nuclear family. So much so, that sociologists, and those of their ilk, contend that the nuclear family is a modern construct. Yet we know this is not true because some 3500 years ago, when Achan sinned against God, what we now call the nuclear family (consisting of a father, mother and their offspring) was called a household. Tribes were made up of clans that were made up of families that were made up of households.
- In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes; and the tribe which the Lord takes shall come near by families [clans]; and the family which the Lord takes shall come near by households [families]; and the household which the Lord takes shall come near man by man. (Joshua 7:14)
The second commandment of the Decalogue tells us how the boundaries of habitation work and how sin is involved in all of this, providing we possess such insights. Iniquity (habituated sin) is passed down from one generation to another without children being aware of what is happening—read The Only Words Written By The Finger Of God. Certain practices are permitted in many cultures that are in fact sin, but they are not sufficient for the culture to be wiped out. When sin is sufficient to wipe a whole culture out, civilizations disappear.
The good news is that the Son of God searches the hearts of every individual (1 Chronicles 28:9; Jeremiah 17:10; Romans 8:27; Revelation 2:23) to see whether or not they hate evil. Those that do, eventually find Him, because they are genuine.
- But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 4:29)
