Some people today call themselves Christians and claim to follow the law. In saying that they follow the law, they claim that they follow the Ten Commandments.
Most people who say they follow the Law, today, that I know about, feature Sabbath-keeping as their claim for salvation. This is rejected by many other people claiming to be Christians because it reeks of salvation by works.
Those who claim to keep the Sabbath by observing the sunsets on Friday and Saturday evenings, unfortunately, deceive themselves and tend towards self-righteousness and hypocrisy.
Self-righteousness occurs because these self-proclaimed Sabbath-keepers have something which they believe they do that sets them apart from those who do not keep the Sabbath. In this, these people tend to take pride and see themselves as different to other people—instead of sinners in need of mercy.
Hypocrisy occurs because those who keep the Sabbath use the services of other people. They use electricity, which is prohibited by the very law that they claim they are keeping. Moreover, when they judge others, who do not do as they do, they judge themselves. For they are hypocrites who make out they are keeping the Sabbath day in accordance to what is written, yet they fail to observe the law in every aspect of its application.
As for following the Law, this is not what I understand the Bible teaches people to follow. Note well:
- But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” (Matthew 8:22)
- Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21)
- “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Matthew 4:19)
Jesus is the Son of God. Those who have the Son have the Father, and those who know the Father, know the Son. Surprisingly, that the Father has a Son is found in the book of Proverbs. However, those who have an ear to hear will learn from the Spirit and those whose hearts are pure are enlightened to the truth of what it is that they have been called. This is because only those who are made pure of heart can understand the truth.
Following Jesus is the way to the truth that leads to life. This is why those who are Christians follow Lord Jesus Christ and do not follow laws. This is also why those who follow Lord Jesus Christ understand the truth about the Law, even though they do not follow it. Actually, the lives of those who follow Lord Jesus Christ, reflect what the Law requires. This is because they are empowered to keep the Royal Law.
