THE SON OF GOD, IN HUMAN FORM, WAS CRUCIFIED ON THE CROSS OF CALVARY. He Rose From The Dead And Demonstrated Through The Death Of A Righteous Man, Justice For All Could Be Delivered. Pontius Pilate just happened to be the man who, depending on how one wants to spin the account, had the ignominy or the privilege of seeing to it that a righteous man took the place of a murderer, so that the justice of God could be executed.

Pontius Pilate just happened to be the right man, in the right place, at the right time, to do the right job for all of humanity to the glory of God.

We could say also that unfortunately for Pontius Pilate, he just happened to be the wrong man, in the wrong place, at the wrong time.
As for what had to be done, this was necessary for the purpose of God to be accomplished in bringing salvation to mankind and executing justice.
The fact that what Pontius Pilate did was to the glory of God is ridiculed by the ignorant, who lack omniscience—but believe whatever they read other ignorant people write about—but this does not diminish the brilliance of the crucifixion. For by the death of one righteous man, the unrighteous are offered redemption from eternal punishment.
To suggest that the crucifixion was not an act of brilliance is to further demonstrate ignorance possessed by those who do not recognize that the knowledge they possess is infinitesimal when compared to eternity, let alone infinity.
Pontius Pilate could have been a man by another name—an actor was needed, a player was required for the part. The reality is that which happened on the Cross of Calvary meant evil had been  judged for what it is, forever. For when the Son of God was crucified, Adam and Eve and their progeny had the ransom price paid. Ignorant people reject this fact.
In the real world—not this temporal world governed by death, but the world of eternity—a battle is taking place for every soul. Human beings, individually, are the kidnapped ones over whom each contest is being fought. But unlike a video game, this is no virtual reality for humans. Humans are the ones who are in prison. Humans are the ones who are suffering, even right now.
However, having been born in prison, humans are not conscious of the war that is taking place. Humans are not even aware of its existence, even though they are ones who are affected by the individual battles that are taking place for each one of them. Every human being is affected in some way physically, emotionally, intellectually, attitudinally and spiritually, as a consequence of the fight that is taking place over each one’s eternal destiny.
Humans are the ones subject to Stockholm syndrome. Humans growing up in the prison (bounded by death and limitations) into which they are born, develop feelings of trust and affection towards the one who has them in captivity. Big brother is not just a futuristic fantasy outlined in a book by George Orwell. Big brother is an entity to whom everyone—who sins—pays homage.
The irony is the sin of murder committed by those who executed the Son of God in human form on the Cross of Calvary, actually enabled the execution of righteousness to be delivered by the Immortal One, as He rose from the dead and demonstrated through the death of a righteous man, justice for all could be delivered.
Christianity, which can be defined, variously, from something to do with anything that is associated with the word “Christ” to the execution of the plan and purpose of God, as evidenced by those who are genuinely set free from being captives to the god of this world, the kidnapper of humankind.
Unless the Son of God, in human form, had been crucified on the Cross, Christianity would not exist.
As it happens, the Son of God, in human form, was crucified on the Cross of Calvary. Discussing other possibilities is like talking about what is the difference between being able to breath and not breathing. Breathing enables humans to live on Earth. Not breathing for an extended period of time is a fait accompli indeed.

Pontius Pilate therefore just happened to be the name of the man who, epending on how one wants to spin the account, had the ignominy or the privilege of seeing to it that a righteous man took the place of a murderer (Mark 15:7), so that the justice of God could be executed.
