Religion is the quest for the truth. If a person does not believe in any quest for the truth, then what does a person believe?
If your husband is a true Christian before you were married, then it is rather surprising that he has married a non-Christian. The Bible teaches that we are not to be unequally yoked.
- Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)
However, if your husband was not a Christian when you were married, but has since become a Christian, then it is understandable how he might manifest carnal desires —associated with pride of life—to override a person’s will.
When people are born from above, though they are newly born of the Spirit, they often manifest carnal tendencies not realizing that these have to be excised so that they might bring forth fruit that comes from the Spirit of God.
- To the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is consecrated through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is consecrated through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy. But if the unbelieving partner desires to separate, let it be so; in such a case the brother or sister is not bound. For God has called us to peace. Wife, how do you know whether you will save your husband? Husband, how do you know whether you will save your wife? (1 Corinthians 7:12-16)
If you have no desire to read the Bible, then there is no point in reading it.
If you have a desire to know the truth, then reading the Bible will be of value for you. In which case, reading the Gospels is a good place to start. But for optimum value, one needs to call out to the Creator of the Universe to lead and guide one’s thoughts into understanding the truth.
- You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart.(Jeremiah 29:13)
As for Jesus, I did not realize that He had risen from the dead and draws people to Himself until my grandparents changed. They both had individual encounters with the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Later, Jesus appeared to them when they were together in their lounge room.
Because of the change I saw that had occurred in my grandparents’ lives—how they related to each other in a loving way rather than the formal manner in which they previously related to each other, with one being bossy and the other being grumpy—I was influenced to eventually seek out Lord Jesus Christ for myself.
Even though I did my own thing, whenever and wherever I liked—but not always to whomever I liked—matters of futility (being born to die), injustice (being born to know suffering) and the non-existence of love (just a knowledge of what it should be) arouse in my mind and these need to be addressed. Besides those three matters, there was an issue concerning some individuals who were on my death-wish list, and whether eternal judgment was a reality.
Each one of us has to seek truth for ourselves. We are responsible for ourselves alone, when it comes to our relationships—especially our Heavenly Father.
As for reading the Bible from a spiritual point of view, only those who have the Holy Spirit can do this. The rest can only read it from an Earthly point of view. Nevertheless, reading the Bible can be profitable if you are open to the truth. The reliability of the Bible has been established historically and also prophetically. Just because people who belong to the ignorati want to disregard the archaeological witness, this does not abolish the truth that Noah’s Ark has been found, the remains of Sodom and Gomorrah have been found, the Exodus crossing and Mt Sinai have been found, as described in the Bible.
If you prefer to believe that billions of years ago something happened, of which there is no proof, just assumptions and speculation, this is your prerogative. If you want to believe people, who will lie rather than tell the truth, this is your right. If you want to understand the only words written by God Himself and know what they mean for you, take the opportunity.
