One of the issues many people have about being responsible beings accountable for their own actions is the fact accountability also means that an evaluation is required that may form the basis of future judgment.

What is not nonsense is the truth that if godless people, who are atheists, did not have to give an account of themselves in some way to God-fearing people, they would not bother to claim any form of morality. But then, since many of these atheists have never really had to face crises that shake the very cells in their bones, not to mention those in their eyeballs, the reality of the truth about life seems foreign to them. Most of them are really carrying out the rebellion of their juvenile years that was repressed by their fears of being authentic human beings or suppressed because of their cowardice when among peers.

The Bible teaches that what a person decides is up to that person. If a person decides to reject what God is seeking to do for the good of Creation, then that person has to give an account. It is no mystery that we read in the book of Isaiah that God desires to reason with us (Isaiah 1:18). Although, it can be difficult to reason with someone you do no know. In which case, we are told in the Bible that as an individual, we are given the opportunity to seek God out, so that we might feel after Him and find Him (Acts 17:26–28).

Any person rejecting the existence of God, does so, because of whatever reason is thought acceptable to the person.

This could be as petty as; “I said to God that I want to win the lottery, but you did not let me, so I know you do not exist.”

Or a case of immature narcissism: “God does not exist because I have an IQ (presumably, Ignorance Quotient) of 199.99, and because I am so smart I possess omniscience.”

You now how it goes, people stand in front of a mirror and genuflect in admiration of themselves: “Mirror mirror on the wall, why is it I am not the dumbest of them all. If God were like me, then He could join my delusion.”

Wisdom is the recognition that being born to die is futile; for if this is all that there is to existence, then this is an evil, especially when you can conceive of eternity. Moreover, being born to die and having to experience suffering between the two events is a compounded evil.

The Film It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) depicts what is found in the Bible, even if done with a hint of sarcasm—using Clarence, the clown. The story tells of a boy who makes a decision to save his brother, and this is the beginning of his forming a desire to rescue those who are drowning in the sea of financial debt. The intervention of the messenger from God saves the day. (Unbelievably, even children of this day and age enjoy the flick. After all, one has to admit, truth is timeless.)

Essentially, what we sow we reap. The eyes of the Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient One roam the Earth to see who hates evil and desires righteousness. Those who desire righteousness are the ones whom God desires to bless over and above all those who don’t.

The words of King David to his son Solomon clearly indicate that the decision to do whatever we desire is ours. We can either seek God or reject Him. Freewill is our responsibility and we are accountable for what we do. That we understand there is accountability for being responsible for our actions, also tells us that judgment was a prerequisite for our possessing freewill; therefore judgment will probably be a requisite for entering the domain of eternity.

All things work together for good for those who are called according to the plan and purpose of our Creator. The essence of this plan and purpose is found in our exercising our freewill and seeking an audience with the One who loves us the most (1 John 4:10). Only the genuine need apply, as King David implies when telling his son, Solomon, that God searches the hearts of each one of us—no point in entering a relationship with a person who lies (cf. Luke 8:15) .

You might think someone is pulling the wool over my eyes. But understand this: God has got not only my number but also your number. He can call you up anytime (Hebrews 9:27) . What you need to do is find the number of your Savior, so you can call him before it is too late (John 5:24). This is the message of the Bible.

God does not block your plans. Conditioning blocks your plans. Ignorance blocks your plans. Sin blocks your plans.

Sin brings forth death and each one is tempted to sin when enticed after his or her own desires. Each one is given the opportunity to acknowledge the truth. Love is a word that is often voiced, often heard, but hardly understood. So many people talk about love but, within minutes, demonstrate that their definition is not what they really mean, or if it is, they do not believe what they say.

Often, I ask what is love?

Theologians will tell you that love is an action. Love is not a feeling. It is an act of the will.

Reading the Bible, one has to agree that love is an act of the will demonstrated by action.

Jesus said that we will know His disciples by their love for one another. Now this is a fascinating statement. If only it were true. For I am still looking for those disciples. To date, I haven’t found any who qualify yet. I’ve met numerous people who say they are disciples of Jesus Christ, but love is not something that I find among them. At least, not the love that never ends. For the Bible says that love never ends.

• A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
• Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. (1 Corinthians 13:8)

Love is a commandment; therefore, it is an act of the will. Love is something that we choose to do. Knowledge apparently will end, but not love. Maybe this is because God is love and humans do not possess the completeness of mature love, even though they have the knowledge of what is required by love.

The Epistle of First John is problematic because the Apostle speaks of a lifestyle expected of people calling themselves disciples of Christ or Christians that appears non existent.

For love to be manifest, from what I can gather, two individuals are required, at a minimum. The two individuals would have to express a desire to keep God’s commandment to love each other and actually never fail in doing so, if they are to demonstrate true love. For love never ends.

From what is clearly obvious from the daily news reports, the interactions that occur on the streets, in the shops, in the office, in the factory and at the work site, love is definitely not something that humans actually enjoy, even if they possess knowledge of its existence.

We are told that the love of God was expressed through Lord Jesus Christ, when He sacrificed His human life for us. Evidently, humans loving God was not part of the equation. After all, we are informed that Jesus died for the ungodly and sinners.

As for being ungodly and a sinner, I qualify on both accounts. Amazingly, the God of Creation has chosen to love a scumbag like myself. I know many like to think they are a cut above people like myself, but when I looked in the mirror, I somehow realized my life was futile, if being born to die is all there is, and we have to experience suffering in between. Introspection caused me to realize that I had no love. I possessed the knowledge of love's existence, but not the power to enjoy it every second of the day.

One has to admit that the book of Romans does seem science fiction. Yet, I know it contains truth when speaking about suffering endured creating character in a person. The part that puzzles me is the love bit.

• More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. (Romans 5:3-5)

People tell me that Pentecostals are more loving than Evangelicals, and Calvinists are really lost in space, because they reject the truth of the God’s word, and are not willing to acknowledge that Jesus died for the salvation of the ungodly.

Then there are those people who say that they believe in God but do not go to church because of the hypocrisy and show acts of kindness and expressions of affection and goodness, that religionists lack—except, maybe, superficially, for those with dog collars giving sweets to little children.

God’s love being poured into the hearts of men when they receive the Holy Spirit seems unbelievable. Yet, I know this has to be true. I have felt it myself, not just thought that it could be possible. Actually, since I met Lord Jesus Christ, I have had this feeling within that is the joy of salvation which never departs, but this is not love.

Nevertheless, I think of God and Lord Jesus frequently throughout the day. Something, I suppose, I would do if I had love for someone. Come to think of it, thinking of a person all day was something I did do--when a teen at school caught up in a thing called puppy-love.

Lord Jesus is my best friend. I know He loves me. Not because there is a verse in the Bible (Proverbs 17:17) that says a friend loves at all times. But because I actually sense His love for me. To be honest, I think I understand what the Apostle meant when he said that we love God because He first loved us.

Once a person feels the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit and the affection that God has for us, apart from being addictive, in that having experienced this, one does not want to be without it, we must ask, Would it not only be bad form and selfish, but also abhorrently vulgar, to dismiss, as unworthy, such love, and reject the Eternal's desire for a relationship with oneself outright?

• {God} desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:4)

Love is a desire that requires an active response by the another individual. If God has expressed His love towards me and I respond, then for this to be an enduring relationship, I would have to ensure my part is genuine.

Authentic love is a two-way street. Since I am coming from a realm where love is unknown, I need God’s love to draw me and support me; even to uphold me, as I cross the chasm between the two worlds: one governed by death and one that only knows life—which has to be eternal, or it is not life after all.

Even as God has forgiven myself, likewise, if I am really genuine, I should be able to forgive those who do not measure up to the commandment of Lord Jesus to love one another and demonstrate true discipleship.

Why? Because I know that I have fallen short, even when I have tried to love as God loves.

The truth is I can choose to forgive or I can choose to hold a grudge. Choosing to forgive those who have harmed is the way of love. Although love that is not righteous is a foolishness variety indeed; not a case of being wise at all. Still, when one is in love, what appears to be infatuation, is a conspicuous feature of its manifestation.

Loving God is evidenced in people who hate evil and desire righteousness, which means for me, that I truly need to intensify my desire for the Holy One, if I truly want to walk with Him.

A seared conscience indicates that the person has no ability to recognize right from wrong. Searing one’s conscience does not mean that a person does not know right from wrong, but has become indifferent to the distinguishing fact that what is wrong is definitely not right to do.

Interestingly, in the book of Hebrews, we learn that those who are mature have learned to distinguish between right from wrong through practice.

The good news is that crucifying the Son of God on your own account is a very difficult thing to do. First, you have to possess not only a full knowledge of what your relationship with Lord Jesus means, but be also walking in the power of the age to come. Essentially, only individuals who have been mightily blessed qualify for apostasy. People like Benny Hinn or Kenneth Copeland, Creftlo Dollar are the types of individuals who could qualify, if they were walk away from trusting in Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.

A Calvinist is a person who does not believe people can commit apostasy, because whoever was going to be saved had been chosen before the foundation of the world. Calvinists do not believe people have freewill. Since freewill is required to commit apostasy, a Calvinist believes that this is impossible.

Ironically, a Calvinist influenced street preacher claims that the likes of Dr David Jeremiah have committed apostasy.

Now MacArthur has another gospel besides that which the Apostle Paul preached, which is saved by faith because of the grace of God (Romans 4:16). MacArthur preaches the gospel of salvation by grace alone; and contrary to what the Bible teaches, the man teaches that GOD is the author of evil. Moreover, MacArthur, and his ilk, do not believe in the power of Holy Spirit baptism, so it is understandable that the fruit of the Holy Spirit is not evident in their lives.

In fact, Kenneth E. Hagin wrote in one of his booklets that Lord Jesus showed him a woman, who committed apostasy and walked away from her salvation. Dr Michael Yeager says that the woman committed the sin unto death, spoken of in the book of 1 John.

Of course, there are those who perform mighty works in the name of Lord Jesus, who are not known by Him. Such individuals, are more like the televangelists that seem to proliferate today. Texe Marrs claims there is a Global Explosion of Religious Apostasy.

One of the criteria that needs to be met before a person can commit apostasy is tasting the goodness of the word of God. This refers to financial blessing, wealth and prosperity. Nothing wrong with being prosperous. Just that if one becomes wealthy from preaching the Word of God, then maybe putting one’s head in the water closet before its too late, might be a good thing; especially, if it brings one to repentance. But this is impossible if one follows the voice of an evil spirit.

Conducting a group Bible Study is really a simple matter. All one has to do is open a Bible and begin expounding the Scriptures within. But is this the best way to run a Bible Study?

Bible studies can be run in the form of a lecture where a person stands in front of a class or audience and talks about what the Bible means. The participants can take notes and then go home and study them at their leisure.

If everybody who attended a Bible Study, that was a lecture, took notes and then found the time to meditate and reflect upon their notes at home, we would be probably living in the ideal world. The reality is people might take notes but, just as likely, they will not find the time nor the motivation to meditate upon those notes when they get home. Usually there will be various distractions and other people demanding their time.

Bible studies, where people come together to sit in an auditorium or even in somebody’s lounge room and listen to somebody impart his or her understanding of what the Bible means are not as effective as having a small group of between three and six people sharing an experience as participants in a Bible Study.

It is often said that we recall ten per cent of what we hear, thirty per cent of what see and sixty percent of what we do. Acquiring skills may involve listening and watching, but action is how they are really acquired. Likewise, we learn more from active participation in a discussion than from observation or listening. This is because when we are actively participating in something, more of our faculties are involved in the learning process. Consequently, we automatically concentrate more in order to make sure that we are being understood and that we are understanding what other people are communicating to us.

When we are actively involved in a group activity and not on the sidelines, as a passive observer, we focus more on our participation and thereby benefit more. This is because we are engaged emotionally, intellectually and even physically, rather than as an observer of proceedings or a spectator at someone else’s performance or a bystander with casual curiosity.

When running a Bible Study, the aim should be for everybody to gain the utmost benefit possible for each participant and allow the Word of God to become something that can be meditated upon at the time discussion is taking place, and not something to be done at a later date. Life does not work this way. Life is lived in the now. What we experience is in the now.

The enemy of mankind is not waiting for a future date to foul our cisterns, which are created for the waters of life, with the filthy waters of the world. The Devil and his agents are doing their best to get everyone of us to drink of the world’s sewers at our peril. We are under constant spiritual attack. When we are discussing Scripture and what it means to us, we need to be reflective during the conversation, not put it off until a later date. A soldier who goes into battle without his armor is at the mercy of the enemy.

Devotional application of the Scriptures during a group Bible Study is equivalent to hammering out the iron for the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, and the shield of faith—as well as sharpening the sword of the Spirit. This is best done in small groups consisting of three to six people, where everybody is encouraged to express their views and thoughtfully ponder each other’s experiences in respect to the Word of Life. The mountain erroneously chosen as Mount Sinai does not fit the description in the Bible, but this does not detract from the fact the Ten Commandments are, without question, unique to the Old Testament.

The real Mount Sinai is in Saudi Arabia. The mountain in Saudi Arabia fits the exact description found in the Bible. Not only is Mount Sinai clearly described, but so is nearby Mount Horeb, which has the requisite cave that qualifies it as the mountain of God, where the prophet Elijah spent time seeking God, after Jezebel, so to speak, put a contract out on him.

The Sea of Reeds does not fit the required biblical description and has been demonstrated ad nausea to be of no value in understanding the Exodus.
