WHY WOULD ANYBODY WANT TO STUDY THE BIBLE? Surely Reading It Once Is Enough; But People Attend Lectures On The Bible And Even Do Actual Courses That Focus On Numerous Aspects Of The Book. Who would think a book about how God want to relate to man would require so much study?

Conducting a group Bible Study is really a simple matter. All one has to do is open a Bible and begin expounding the Scriptures within. But is this the best way to run a Bible Study?

Bible studies can be run in the form of a lecture where a person stands in front of a class or audience and talks about what the Bible means. The participants can take notes and then go home and study them at their leisure.
If everybody who attended a Bible Study, that was a lecture, took notes and then found the time to meditate and reflect upon their notes at home, we would be probably living in the ideal world. The reality is people might take notes but, just as likely, they will not find the time nor the motivation to meditate upon those notes when they get home. Usually there will be various distractions and other people demanding their time.
Bible studies, where people come together to sit in an auditorium or even in somebody’s lounge room and listen to somebody impart his or her understanding of what the Bible means are not as effective as having a small group of between three and six people sharing an experience as participants in a Bible Study.
It is often said that we recall ten per cent of what we hear, thirty per cent of what see and sixty percent of what we do. Acquiring skills may involve listening and watching, but action is how they are really acquired. Likewise, we learn more from active participation in a discussion than from observation or listening. This is because when we are actively participating in something, more of our faculties are involved in the learning process. Consequently, we automatically concentrate more in order to make sure that we are being understood and that we are understanding what other people are communicating to us.
When we are actively involved in a group activity and not on the sidelines, as a passive observer, we focus more on our participation and thereby benefit more. This is because we are engaged emotionally, intellectually and even physically, rather than as an observer of proceedings or a spectator at someone else’s performance or a bystander with casual curiosity.
When running a Bible Study, the aim should be for everybody to gain the utmost benefit possible for each participant and allow the Word of God to become something that can be meditated upon at the time discussion is taking place, and not something to be done at a later date. Life does not work this way. Life is lived in the now. What we experience is in the now.
The enemy of mankind is not waiting for a future date to foul our cisterns, which are created for the waters of life, with the filthy waters of the world. The Devil and his agents are doing their best to get everyone of us to drink of the world’s sewers at our peril. We are under constant spiritual attack. When we are discussing Scripture and what it means to us, we need to be reflective during the conversation, not put it off until a later date. A soldier who goes into battle without his armor is at the mercy of the enemy.
Devotional application of the Scriptures during a group Bible Study is equivalent to hammering out the iron for the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, and the shield of faith—as well as sharpening the sword of the Spirit. This is best done in small groups consisting of three to six people, where everybody is encouraged to express their views and thoughtfully ponder each other’s experiences in respect to the Word of Life. WHY READ THE BIBLE WHEN YOU CAN MEMORIZE IT AND THEN NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT IS WRITTEN WITHIN ITS PAGES. Memorizing The Bible Is The Most Convenient Way Of Carry The Written Word On Your Person. For it is not only on your person but within your very mind.

I once had a small New Testament with 6 point print that was pocket size, which I used to memorize Scripture as I traveled around or went for a walk. Today, we can access much more information on iphones. However, if you do not want to use too much data on your phone, you can always print out passages of Scripture, put the sheet of paper in your purse with the required verses or chapters and refer to that, rather than having to carry around a Bible.

Better still, memorizing Scripture has more benefits. In fact, memorizing passages such as John 3:1–21; John 1:1-18; Romans 5:1–10; Romans 8:1–30; Hebrews 5:7–6:12; Philippians 2:1–18; Matthew 5:1–20; Exodus 20:1–17; Psalm 1; Psalm 23; Malachi 3:6–12; 1 John 1.1–5:21. This way you can carry wonderful truths around in your head.

I think that memorizing Scripture in passages even surpasses carrying a pocket-sized Bible, because in doing so, we are able to develop the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Memorizing Truths Of God Enables Us To Get A Perspective That Surpasses Reading

BIBLE STUDY IS SOMETHING THAT FEW PEOPLE TAKE SERIOUS. Studying The Bible Is Considered Important If People Are To Understand What It Really States Rather Than Being Ignorant Individuals Who Make Uniformed Claims And Demonstrate They Are Fools. There are different ways to study the Bible; for instance, devotional study is different to historical-literal study.

Actually, we do not need to study the Bible at all. What we need to do is discover the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ for ourselves and enter into a personal relationship with Him. Once we have that personal relationship, and have received the promised baptism of the Holy Spirit, then we are told in the Scriptures that He (the Holy Spirit) will lead us into all truth.

When I was seeking God earnestly to show me the truth, a voice spoke to me and said, "The first truth is this, get the log out of your own eye." Then, from within my own mind, flowed the thoughts, "and then you will see clearly how to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

Immediately, I understood that I had to walk with God and allow Him to teach me what it is that I need to do for the log to be taken out of my own eye. This excision of the log from our spiritual eyes is vital if we are to be completely free from sin and its inhibiting nature. Sin prevents us from experiencing the joy of Salvation, the love of God and peace of the Holy Spirit in every situation.

Memorizing portions of Scripture, not just a verse, but the text and its context, and meditating upon that is much more fruitful than studying the Bible to understand doctrines and theology. For everyone who believes that the Son of God has come in the flesh is saved. For everyone who does not deny the Father has the Son and everyone who does not deny Lord Jesus Christ has the Father.

The Apostle John is said to have been boiled in oil but, miraculously, lived; therefore he was banished to exile on the Isle of Patmos. The Apostle John understood what it meant to believe in his Savior and Lord. John's testimony was incredible. Yet he wrote such simple truths, such as:
  • I write this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)
  • By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit which confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God. (1 John 4:2)
  • And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world. (1 John 4:14)
  • No one who denies the Son has the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also. (1 John 2:23)
  • He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne to his Son. (1 John 5:10)
To believe Jesus is the Son of God, means to call upon His name and accept that He has given His life so that you may possess the rightful inheritance that is yours. This inheritance was bequeathed to you when Jesus of Nazareth died on your behalf. To believe also means to accept without doubt and adhere to the conviction that the Love of God will uphold you; so you will possess faith in Lord Jesus Christ, and your behavior will produce the fruit of a changed life. This comes about as you renew your mind and your thinking by conforming to the counsel of the omniscient mind of God. His ways become your ways, when His thoughts become your thoughts.

Reading and memorizing the Scriptures and calling upon Lord Jesus Christ to guide us in the Holy Spirit is the only way to go. All who do this will find that they will be taught of the Lord and, individually, each one will experience the freedom that Lord Jesus Christ desires for everyone to have. There is no need "to study" the Bible at all; but it is to our detriment not to read and meditate upon what we read.
